Capital FM: Drake Talks The Tube In London

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Drizzy Drake told Capital FM that he wants to experience The Tube in London, after hearing that his friend Rihanna took The Tube. The Tube, for those that do not know, is London’s underground transport system. Read what Drake had to say after the jump.

Drake thoughts on the Tube: “I guess I have to now I guess that’s like that thing. You know I feel like that’s the word on road out here is that Rihanna was on the tube so I feel like I got to experience it as well – it’s crazy. I wonder what was people’s reaction when she got on there as well, that’s amazing.”

Drake about Rihanna and Performing: “She actually probably would have got on stage and we’ve yet to perform that record together so it would have been special but she actually got there for the last four songs so she got an idea of how exciting the show was and I think she had a fun time for the brief time she was there. We’ll get to perform it at some point I’m sure.”

Drake: Dealing With Haters, Ditching VIBE, and Sippin’ Syrup

Friday, March 30th, 2012

While Drake toured in UK, Drake sat down with the Guardian for an exclusive interview where he talked about being an “Icon”, recreational drug use, his critics and handling botched interviews. Check out the excerpts below.

Ditching the VIBE Interview

“I didn’t like the way I was treated,” he says. “They ran this story about how I’m the most bitter guy, and my life is in turmoil. And I’m, like, a very happy 25-year-old kid living an amazing life. They tried to put a damper on my character, I guess because I didn’t play according to their rules.”

About being rap Jimi Hendrix or Bob Marley on the song “Lord Knows.”

“I didn’t really say I was the rap Hendrix or Marley, I said I was the descendant,” he corrects, smiling at the tenuous distinction. “Because I feel like that’s what I want to be for this generation: iconic. That’s the purpose I want to serve on this earth. I want my words to be remembered in 10, 15 years.”

The critics and the haters.

“I can’t lie to you, I read what they have to say and it’s … character-building.” He used to find it mortally wounding. “There have been times when a negative comment about me would be the be all and end all, and I’d wonder, Why do you hate me so much? Why would you tell me that you want to kill my mom or see me dead? “It’s scary for me to say this on record,” he says, “but artists are only human, and we seek validation like everyone else. You just have to come to the conclusion that it’s OK, there are going to be people who like you and people who don’t. Luckily there are millions of people who love me and a few who don’t.”

Puffing some mary-jane and sippin’ syrup

“Have I sipped codeine before?” he asks for me. “Yeah, of course. Have I smoked weed? Yes. Do I drink wine? Yes. But do I do it excessively? No. I’m not a reckless guy. I do it all within moderation. I’m not into drugs.” He realizes what he has just said, and bursts out laughing, as do his crew. “I mean any outside the ones I just mentioned. Nah, that’s not me. I care too much about what I have. I’m not going to throw it away for that.”

Video: Drizzy Drake & Nicki Minaj Interview Each Other

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Too funny.

Even after their short-lived Twitter marriage, Nicki Minaj and Drizzy Drake remain great friends. Drizzy was a surprise guest at the New Orleans stop of the Lil Wayne-headlined I Am Still Music Tour, and MTV News caught up with Young Money’s Bonnie & Clyde backstage.

Rather than tend to our questions, Drizzy and Nicki decided to interview each other. Drake started off slow with his questioning, asking Nicki about her “peak moment” onstage.

“You want to know what, Drizzy? I really love busting out from underneath the floor doing ‘Roman’s Revenge,’ ” Nicki told MTV News — er, Drake. “When I say, ‘I’ll kick that ho, punt!’ When I say, ‘Bitch, if you ain’t sh—in’ then get off the pot,’ we really connect.”

The “Best I Ever Had” rapper did his journalistic due diligence with his follow-up question, asking Nicki when we could expect new music, while adding that he thought it would be “really exciting.”

“Well, you know, Drizzy, I have been keeping everything sort of stored inside of me,” Nicki said. “So I’m just in complete tour mode. Yeah, I’ve been getting a lot of requests to do some features, but if I can’t give myself wholeheartedly, I always pass. I definitely never want to be just doing too many features that they start getting watered-down and I’m not giving my whole, true self.”

Nicki said she would focus on recording new material after she’s finished with Britney Spears’ upcoming Femme Fatale tour. One exception the “Moment 4 Life” MC will make to her limited recording is if any of her YMCMB crew come calling.

Drake then asked Nicki if she would be on his forthcoming sophomore album, Take Care, to which she playfully said she would pencil him in.

It was then Nicki’s turn as interviewer, and her first question for Drake was what it was like to be back with his Young Money family after touring the U.K. earlier this year. “I truly enjoy these moments,” Drake answered. “Especially being in New Orleans. Actually, New Orleans was the first place that I ever really realized that my music was getting out there. I remember walking outside the W [hotel], and there was a guy out there selling mixtapes and he had So Far Gone. I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t even mad. You usually think you’ll be mad when there’s a bootlegger, but I was super excited.”

Nicki then asked Drake about the beard-and-curly-hair look he’s been rocking lately, and he revealed that it was for a film role. In January, it was reported that the former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star was joining the cast of “Arbitrage,” which is set to star Susan Sarandon and Al Pacino. However, Drake relayed that he has “decided to work on my album instead of doing that particular film.”

Seems like Take Care may be arriving sooner than later.

Drake Working With Justin Timberlake

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Drizzy Drake is working on some songs with Justin Timberlake.
“One thing that’s in the works, this is exclusive, this is a moment… One thing that I haven’t mentioned to anybody yet, but will, right now. I‘ve always wanted to work with him and it’s in the works right now. Me and Justin Timberlake will probably have a song soon. I’m really excited about that, cause I’ve wanted to work with Justin for a long time. And we’ve recently talked about it and I think we’re going to make it happen.”

Cosmopolitan: Drake is Smart, Sensitive & Superhot

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Cosmopolitan: Is it hard for guys to get over breakups?
Drake: Definitely. Even after a long time, it’s painful to see an ex with somebody else. As happy as you are that she’s happy, there’s a little tingle underneath your heart. It’s not a sting. But it hurts a bit, and you wish it wasn’t there.

C: Is sex on a first date a deal breaker?
D: No, I don’t get why women think that. You’re telling yourself that all you have to offer is your body and the physical act. There’s more to you than that. If I like somebody, there’s so many great things to look forward to, even if we do it on the first night.

C: If a woman is into a guy, how should she get his attention?
D: I’m shy, so I like when she comes up and says “Hey, how are you doing?” That lets me know she wants to talk. The scariest thing is when you look at a woman and think of a million reasons why she wouldn’t want to.

C: What’s the best compliment a woman can give a guy?
D: I never mind hearing “You look nice tonight.” Guys put in a lot of silent effort. When I’m going on a date, I’m getting a haircut, I’ve got a new outfit, and I’m wearing cologne. So it’s nice when it’s noticed.

C: What’s the secret to a happy relationship?
D: Acceptance. You’ve got to be comfortable enough to be completely naked with lights on and the curtains open.

Video: Drake Wants A Romantic Connection

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

“I’m envious of friends of mine that have great committed relationships. When people call home to check on their girl or they say, ‘I’m not going to go out tonight. I’m just going to spend the night with my girl.’ That hits me, man. I just don’t have that,” says Drizzy Drake.

This morning, the MC-cum-singer released “I Get Lonely Too,” the first single from his forthcoming R&B mixtape It’s Never Enough slated to drop later this year. At the ripe age of 23, Drake said that he’s had his fun. He’s experienced the rush of nightclubs and strip clubs, but they have become bland.

“And also, I’m not going to be the one to drag my own name through the dirt, so to be with a different woman every night is a terrible decision,” he said, explaining why he resists the temptation to sow his wild oats.

“If I can find a connection with somebody that can understand what goes on in this life — and when I say somebody who understands, I don’t mean a girl that understands that I’m going to be with other girls; I mean just a girl that’s supportive and makes it easy to exist and laugh,” he said. “Laughing is a big thing. Conversation’s got to flow. We got to laugh at the same things.”

Grammy nominee and performer Drake tells “Extra” his favorite moment from the awards show was seeing Taylor Swift — and he wants to work with her in future!

“Seeing Taylor Swift in person is always fun for me,” Drizzy Drake, real name Aubrey Drake Graham, dished to “Extra’s” AJ Calloway backstage at Sunday’s show. “I bought this Taylor Swift t-shirt the other day that I might wear tonight.”

The rapper continued, “I just have this small little thing with her, I just like her whole being. I’m excited about her career and I’m excited about wearing my t-shirt tonight.”

When Calloway asked Drake if he would consider collaborating with the country megastar, Drake answered, “That would be nice, I’m down!”
