Video: Drake Wants To Hug Angelina Jolie & Alicia Keys

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

This is a family network, so we can’t print what Lil Wayne wants to do to every girl in the world (you can pick up the Young Money compilation to find out), but Weezy’s protégé Drizzy Drake has a cleaner desire when it comes to the women attending the 2010 Video Music Awards.

The Toronto MC wants to hug a number of the celebrity starlets in attendance. It is, after all, Drake’s first VMA experience. He said he would start with Angelina Jolie and move onto Alicia Keys, though the recently christened Mrs. Swizz Beatz would only get a congratulatory squeeze, Drake said.

“I get to meet everybody,” he said of his plans for the Sunday night’s big festivities. “There’s a couple of women I’d like to hug. I’d like to hug Angelina Jolie. I wanna hug Alicia. I’m happy for her. I wanna tell them in person: I’m still a fan.”

With the Thank Me Later rapper’s rapid rise, it’s easy to forget before this year his VMA experience consisted of catching the show from his couch rather than in the house. But after scoring a number of nominations, including Best Hip-Hop Video, the Toronto lyricist has an invite not only to attend the Chelsea Handler-hosted event, but also perform.

To hear him tell it, he’ll be enjoying the blowout on Sunday night just as much as anybody else.

“I’m just excited to see all the faces I never met,” Drake said. “I wanna shake some hands. I been working so hard, I hardly ever get to go to any parties in L.A. or anything. This is it. This is my time.”

Nicki Minaj Calls Drake Twitter Marriage ‘Mischievous’

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Drizzy Drake is just my little brother, and I kid with him all the time,’ Minaj says.

Nicki Minaj promises there were no "Drickis" born in the 24 hours she and Drake were "married." This past weekend, Nick called into Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 and spoke to DJ Drama about a myriad of topics, including her recent Twitter marriage to (and divorce from) her fellow Young Money rapper.

"Drake is just my little brother, and I kid with him all the time," said Nicki, who will be performing at this year’s VMA pre-show. "We were just being crazy. I think we were a little bit bored. There’s really never a dull moment. I wouldn’t say we were bored; I would say we were being mischievous.

"I was doing an interview, and every day, I see some things written about me that aren’t true," she added. "I wanted to give the blogs a bit of payback and put my own story out."

When asked if she were still single, Nicki coyly answered, "I’m always single. I don’t date boys. I don’t like boys. It’s true. I don’t change. I think boys are yucky, and that’s it. Nothing more to say."

When it comes to the kings of hip-hop, however, Minaj had plenty to say — especially when she’s on a track with them. Nicki recently appeared on the Kanye West/ Jay-Z collaboration "Monster," which also guest-stars Rick Ross and Bon Iver. Minaj has gained a swell of support from fans who say she has the song’s show-stealing verse.

"I’ve just been blessed to be on a song with two living legends. In my book, Jay and Kanye are icons, and I never in a billion years would have thought I would be on a song with one of them, let alone both of them," she said. "I’m happy people think I murdered the record. It just feels exciting to be a part of that collab. Seriously."

Nicki also revealed that she has moved to Los Angeles and is still hard at work on her debut LP, Pink Friday. That means no days off — even on Labor Day.

"I know a lot is riding on this album," she said. "I wanna make everybody proud. There are some people that are rooting for me out there. I wanna go in."

What did you think of Nicki and Drake’s Twitter "marriage"? Let us know in the comments!

Drake Announces Welcome Home Weezy Concert

Friday, August 20th, 2010

A fitting homecoming is already being planned for Lil Wayne. The day after he is expected to be released from jail, the Cash Money rapper will celebrate by throwing a welcome home concert.

Drizzy Drake made the announcement during his Ustream session on Thursday, saying it would take place on November 5, but an exact location was not disclosed. Drizzy has a show the day before in Los Angeles and the day after in Las Vegas. Lil Wayne is serving his time at Rikers Island in New York.

“Undisclosed location, November 5, the Welcome Home Weezy concert,” said Wayne’s protégé while sipping on Pinot Grigio in his Toronto crib. “You might as well camp out at all different locations. That’s gonna be crazy.”

Lil Wayne has been serving time for weapons charges since March. He is expected to be released on November 4. His EP, I Am Not a Human Being, will arrive on his 28th birthday on September 27.

Lil Wayne, Drake, Birdman, More Team Up For New Videos

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The Cash Money/Young Money synergy continued recently in Miami. All the family was there: Lil Wayne, Drizzy Drake, the Birdman, Nicki Minaj, Lil Twist, Lil Chuckee, Mack Maine … everybody. Wayne and his Young Money camp shot the video for “Bed Rock,” while Birdman corralled Drake and Weezy for “4 My Town (Play Ball),” the next single off his album Priceless, due Monday.

“Me, Birdman and Wayne, we got this new song — I guess you could say it’s like another ‘Money to Blow,’ ” Drake said on set. “[The] three dudes that brought you the original are coming back, trying to make it just as big. It’s cool, man, to come out here and see the classic Cash Money feel. Everything is really big. It’s borderline cartoon. All the best things — the best cars, the best-looking women, the lights. It’s one of those videos that’s fun to do.”

Birdman continued to say that while Drake is family, he has his own niche.

“Me and my son been working 20 years, literally. Working with Drake brings a different spark,” Birdman said about working with Wayne and Drake. “[Drake's] got a different spark. He’s him. He brings him to what we do. It’s a different look. It brings something else to it. What I love about him is he does his own thing. He has his own thing with our thing and it makes it bigger. Drizzy!”
