Video: Drizzy Drake & Nicki Minaj Interview Each Other

April 21st, 2011

Too funny.

Even after their short-lived Twitter marriage, Nicki Minaj and Drizzy Drake remain great friends. Drizzy was a surprise guest at the New Orleans stop of the Lil Wayne-headlined I Am Still Music Tour, and MTV News caught up with Young Money’s Bonnie & Clyde backstage.

Rather than tend to our questions, Drizzy and Nicki decided to interview each other. Drake started off slow with his questioning, asking Nicki about her “peak moment” onstage.

“You want to know what, Drizzy? I really love busting out from underneath the floor doing ‘Roman’s Revenge,’ ” Nicki told MTV News — er, Drake. “When I say, ‘I’ll kick that ho, punt!’ When I say, ‘Bitch, if you ain’t sh—in’ then get off the pot,’ we really connect.”

The “Best I Ever Had” rapper did his journalistic due diligence with his follow-up question, asking Nicki when we could expect new music, while adding that he thought it would be “really exciting.”

“Well, you know, Drizzy, I have been keeping everything sort of stored inside of me,” Nicki said. “So I’m just in complete tour mode. Yeah, I’ve been getting a lot of requests to do some features, but if I can’t give myself wholeheartedly, I always pass. I definitely never want to be just doing too many features that they start getting watered-down and I’m not giving my whole, true self.”

Nicki said she would focus on recording new material after she’s finished with Britney Spears’ upcoming Femme Fatale tour. One exception the “Moment 4 Life” MC will make to her limited recording is if any of her YMCMB crew come calling.

Drake then asked Nicki if she would be on his forthcoming sophomore album, Take Care, to which she playfully said she would pencil him in.

It was then Nicki’s turn as interviewer, and her first question for Drake was what it was like to be back with his Young Money family after touring the U.K. earlier this year. “I truly enjoy these moments,” Drake answered. “Especially being in New Orleans. Actually, New Orleans was the first place that I ever really realized that my music was getting out there. I remember walking outside the W [hotel], and there was a guy out there selling mixtapes and he had So Far Gone. I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t even mad. You usually think you’ll be mad when there’s a bootlegger, but I was super excited.”

Nicki then asked Drake about the beard-and-curly-hair look he’s been rocking lately, and he revealed that it was for a film role. In January, it was reported that the former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star was joining the cast of “Arbitrage,” which is set to star Susan Sarandon and Al Pacino. However, Drake relayed that he has “decided to work on my album instead of doing that particular film.”

Seems like Take Care may be arriving sooner than later.

Lenny Kravitz Hints At Collaboration With Drake, Swizz Beatz

February 24th, 2011

Rocker Lenny Kravitz keeps his hip-hop collaborations few and far between. But when a photo of Kravitz, Drake and Swizz Beatz together in a studio hit the Internet, speculation was set off that the trio was cooking up a hi-wattage musical union. MTV News caught up with Kravitz prior to his performance before tip-off at the NBA All-Star Game and asked what exactly was in the works.

"That’s some secret business, man," Kravitz told MTV News slyly. "Who knows what was going on that night?!"

Nevertheless, Kravitz revealed some more details when asked for his thoughts on Toronto rapper Drake.

"I think he’s a very talented individual," Kravitz said of the child-actor-turned-rapper. "His new music is even more incredible. We got together and played around so there might be a little something happening, yeah …"

When asked about producer Swizz Beatz, Kravitz gave up even more intel.

"He is an amazing person," Kravitz said of Swizz. "I got to know him through Alicia [Keys, who is Beatz's wife]. And we’ve become very good friends. He’s a gentleman. He’s a very intelligent person and I enjoy his company. When things happen organically, it’s nice. I’m not one that normally collaborates. I play all the instruments, I produce my records. And it’s great to meet people that I want to collaborate with at this point."

Some of Kravitz’s limited collabos with the hip-hop world include 2002′s "Show Me Your Soul" with Diddy, Loon and Pharrell from the Bad Boys 2 soundtrack and "Storm," featuring Jay-Z from his Baptism album. Kravitz also played guitar on the song "Guns & Roses" from Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse album.

Last year, Kravitz revealed that Teena Marie took him in when he was a teenager and credited the late soul singer with saving his life.

What do you think about Kravitz collaborating with Drake and Swizz Beatz? Let us know in the comments.

February 13th, 2011

From Rap-Up:

Young Money-Cash Money toasted their moneymakers Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Drizzy Drake at last night’s pre-Grammy soirée at West Hollywood’s The Lot. Spirits were high as hip-hop’s hottest crew took the stage, posing for photos and saying a few words.

“I want to say that from the bottom of my heart, I could not be with a different label. And I said earlier, if somebody paid me to be with a different label, I couldn’t. These people right here are fu**in’ amazing!” said Young Money’s First Lady, who received a platinum plaque for Pink Friday. “[Wayne] four years ago saw me rapping on a motherfu**in’ starcase on a DVD in Queens, New York. This shit is fu**in’ real. Baby would come to the studio and see this crazy New York girl in the studio and now look, a million records. Shout to all my bad bitches that’s gettin’ money! YMCMB, ya dig?”
