“In The Morning” Music Video Coming Out Valentine’s Day

Monday, February 7th, 2011

It looks like we can expect some J. Cole and Drizzy Drake visuals on Valentine’s Day.  The Friday Night Lights‘ “In The Morningmusic video was shot in Paris, France during their international tour a few weeks ago.

The two MCs have been linked for some time due to their lyrical abilities, but online fodder had positioned the pair as rivals rather than allies, a claim Cole struck down when “In the Morning” debuted.

“I got a text from Drake,” Cole told MTV News about the origins of their collaboration. “Now, I kind of just let people say what they say on the Internet or when they have discussions, but the real truth is me and Drake are cool, and have been cool and have been building a relationship. But he hit me when I was in Paris [on a tour], like, ‘Yo, I just heard this “In the Morning.” ‘ He had just heard it for the first time. He said it was so good that he told me some wild story, you know those exaggerated stories, like, ‘I need better beats,’ just one of those type of things, giving me props.”

Lil Wayne, Drake, Birdman, More Team Up For New Videos

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The Cash Money/Young Money synergy continued recently in Miami. All the family was there: Lil Wayne, Drizzy Drake, the Birdman, Nicki Minaj, Lil Twist, Lil Chuckee, Mack Maine … everybody. Wayne and his Young Money camp shot the video for “Bed Rock,” while Birdman corralled Drake and Weezy for “4 My Town (Play Ball),” the next single off his album Priceless, due Monday.

“Me, Birdman and Wayne, we got this new song — I guess you could say it’s like another ‘Money to Blow,’ ” Drake said on set. “[The] three dudes that brought you the original are coming back, trying to make it just as big. It’s cool, man, to come out here and see the classic Cash Money feel. Everything is really big. It’s borderline cartoon. All the best things — the best cars, the best-looking women, the lights. It’s one of those videos that’s fun to do.”

Birdman continued to say that while Drake is family, he has his own niche.

“Me and my son been working 20 years, literally. Working with Drake brings a different spark,” Birdman said about working with Wayne and Drake. “[Drake's] got a different spark. He’s him. He brings him to what we do. It’s a different look. It brings something else to it. What I love about him is he does his own thing. He has his own thing with our thing and it makes it bigger. Drizzy!”

Drake Teams Up With The Dream For “Shut It Down”

Drake’s long-awaited debut, “Thank Me Later,” was recently pushed from a fall release to early 2010. But one of the album’s producers, Harlem-based Omen, says the Toronto MC is ready to release first single, “Shut It Down” featuring The-Dream, in the coming weeks.

“We’re filming a video for it soon helmed by Hype Williams. The track will be serviced just a few weeks after,” Omen tells Billboard.

The song came about when Omen teamed up with Drake’s longtime musical collaborator, 40, and together they came up with the production. “I was working on some drum patterns and 40 had the melody going. 40 is very skilled and has a crazy ear for obscure sounds and chords,” says Omen. “It took us the whole night to come up with the track, but we finished it and played it for Drake the next day, who already had the song’s concept.”

The idea for the track, which Omen describes as a “Prince-like, powerful song,” is about “empowering females. Drake said he had a song idea called ‘Shut It Down’ aimed at club-going females. When they go out and they get dressed up and put their makeup on and get their hair done, they have the capacity to shut the club down,” Omen recalls.

The-Dream eventually got on the track; as of now, he has a verse and appears on the last two choruses and on the bridge.

But Omen’s working relationship with Drake started years before this track came into fruition. Omen, an up-and-coming producer then, met 40 in Toronto back in 2003 while working on Canadian artist Jellystone’s album. A few years later, during another visit to Canada, Omen was introduced to a new artist 40 was working with named Drake. “He told me he needed my insight on Drake’s direction,” says Omen. “I heard Drake, and immediately thought, ‘this kid is crazy!’”
