Drake Talks to T-RexXx At The 2012 Polaris Prize Gala

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

Yesterday T-RexXx gave a speech on why Drake should win the 2012 Polaris Music Prize Award. Drake was nominated for this award.

Tonight as you pick the #1 album, please consider Take Care ’cause let’s be fair… all the songs are amazing, and my boy 40 went in on those beats, so you can’t deny the affect it’s had from the corporate offices right down to the streets.

Even my landlord was ready to tell me to Take Care until I told him I could get him some seats.

However, tonight we have 10 great albums making it very hard to choose sides. And yes it’s fucked up, Damian, but can you picture the headlines when Drake’s Take Care becomes the first hip-hop album to take the Polaris Prize?

The impact of Take Care is evident. I say that ’cause T remember when rappers from Toronto had fake accents living in the shadow of the U.S. But now we making Young Money and We Da Best more importantly – for our youth this music has created change they don’t wear Yankees fitteds no more, but New Era is sold outta Blue Jays!

Confidence bestowed upon our youth through this music making way for a kid from Brampton, Winnipeg, Scarborough, Forest Hill… that has a love for this art form to confidently use it.

This is more than an album. So many people attach to this body of work for different reasons – this album is 20 songs of celebration, 20 songs of inspiration, and 20 songs of liberation.

‘Cause ‘lord knows, lord knows’ it wasn’t long ago when they’d say that a Canadian kid cant make it rappin’.

Now look what’s happened. The paparazzi can’t stop, won’t stop snappin “DRAKE DRAKE DRAKE Drake!”
Even got your homeboy T-RexXx asking for an interview.

But that’s alright, because Take Care represents us, to the world, from our inner city view.

That’s my rhyme. That’s my time.

Drake Discusses 3rd Album While in London

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

While in London for his Club Paradise tour, Drizzy Drake sat down with KISS FM for an interview. Drake discusses his third album, which he says he would like Jamie XX, who produced "Take Care," to have a big part in. He also talks on his crowd becoming world wide, chilling with Rihanna and more.

"I’m just sort of at that place where I’m collecting beats. I recently did some work with 2 Chainz, he’s an incredible artist from the U.S. that’s buzzing right now," Drizzy said. "But aside from that, I’m just collecting beats. I’m actually supposed to go see Jamie xx tonight so we can take it a step further. I really want him to have a big presence on this next album. 40 is back home working on an incredible project. I can’t wait to get back there and work with him. So yeah, it’s really more about building a canvas and we’ll start right."

He also talks about guys relating to him and why that is,

"Well, I think that, you know, one of the best parts about my career, is like, you know, I don’t have to wake up in the morning and say to myself I gotta remember to talk like this or act like this ’cause I’m playing a character," Drake continued, "I get to wake up and be myself."

Video: Drizzy Drake & Nicki Minaj Interview Each Other

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Too funny.

Even after their short-lived Twitter marriage, Nicki Minaj and Drizzy Drake remain great friends. Drizzy was a surprise guest at the New Orleans stop of the Lil Wayne-headlined I Am Still Music Tour, and MTV News caught up with Young Money’s Bonnie & Clyde backstage.

Rather than tend to our questions, Drizzy and Nicki decided to interview each other. Drake started off slow with his questioning, asking Nicki about her “peak moment” onstage.

“You want to know what, Drizzy? I really love busting out from underneath the floor doing ‘Roman’s Revenge,’ ” Nicki told MTV News — er, Drake. “When I say, ‘I’ll kick that ho, punt!’ When I say, ‘Bitch, if you ain’t sh—in’ then get off the pot,’ we really connect.”

The “Best I Ever Had” rapper did his journalistic due diligence with his follow-up question, asking Nicki when we could expect new music, while adding that he thought it would be “really exciting.”

“Well, you know, Drizzy, I have been keeping everything sort of stored inside of me,” Nicki said. “So I’m just in complete tour mode. Yeah, I’ve been getting a lot of requests to do some features, but if I can’t give myself wholeheartedly, I always pass. I definitely never want to be just doing too many features that they start getting watered-down and I’m not giving my whole, true self.”

Nicki said she would focus on recording new material after she’s finished with Britney Spears’ upcoming Femme Fatale tour. One exception the “Moment 4 Life” MC will make to her limited recording is if any of her YMCMB crew come calling.

Drake then asked Nicki if she would be on his forthcoming sophomore album, Take Care, to which she playfully said she would pencil him in.

It was then Nicki’s turn as interviewer, and her first question for Drake was what it was like to be back with his Young Money family after touring the U.K. earlier this year. “I truly enjoy these moments,” Drake answered. “Especially being in New Orleans. Actually, New Orleans was the first place that I ever really realized that my music was getting out there. I remember walking outside the W [hotel], and there was a guy out there selling mixtapes and he had So Far Gone. I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t even mad. You usually think you’ll be mad when there’s a bootlegger, but I was super excited.”

Nicki then asked Drake about the beard-and-curly-hair look he’s been rocking lately, and he revealed that it was for a film role. In January, it was reported that the former “Degrassi: The Next Generation” star was joining the cast of “Arbitrage,” which is set to star Susan Sarandon and Al Pacino. However, Drake relayed that he has “decided to work on my album instead of doing that particular film.”

Seems like Take Care may be arriving sooner than later.
